Capture · What You Hear / Mark While Recording

🔖 Mark While Recording

While recording, you can mark key moments, jot down ideas, and insert photos on the fly.

This is inFin Voice Notes' most easily overlooked capability — but the one you'll never want to give up once you start using it.

Why Mark During Recording

Pure transcription answers "what was said," but it doesn't know which sentence you found important.

90% of any meeting is warm-up; the truly important part might be three sentences. If you have to scrub from the beginning after it's over, you've basically listened to the whole thing again.

Tapping at the moment you hear it is far more useful than scrubbing through two hours later.

Three Ways to Note

1. Mark key moments

When you hear a key point, tap to mark it. A timeline is generated afterwards, which you can jump straight to.

2. Capture an inspiration

When someone says something that triggers a different thought — write it down right away.

These "your own thoughts, triggered by someone else" are the easiest to lose and the most valuable.

3. Insert a photo

Whiteboards, slides, business cards, handwritten drafts — snap a photo and drop it in.

Things that text transcription can't describe are taken care of with a single photo.

Marks Also Help the AI

Marks tell the AI: this part is important.

When generating an AI Summary, the content you've marked is weighted more heavily, so the summary gets closer to what you actually care about.

So marks aren't just for you — they're a signal to the AI.

A Usage Suggestion

Don't overdo it. For a one-hour meeting, 5–8 marks is plenty.

Mark too much and you might as well not mark at all. There's only one criterion: Will I still need this sentence next week?

FAQ

Q: Do marks change the recording? No. Marks are a layer of information on top of the recording; the original audio is preserved in full.

Q: Can I add marks afterwards? You can manage marks afterwards, but adding marks is not yet supported.

Q: Will marks sync to other devices? Yes, they sync with the note via iCloud.

Q: Will inserted photos be compressed? They'll be compressed appropriately while keeping the image clear — please keep a copy of the photo yourself.
